Although large numbers of their original readers in the '50s and '60s were lesbians or protolesbians hoping for a glimpse of themselves or for some tenuous connection to an almost mythical community of "unnatural lovers," the covers of these books were clearly targeted to a primary audience of furtive young men. Scantily clad, buxom blondes simper under the gaze of older, "experienced" brunettes sometimes wearing trousers or short hair but never without lipstick. I bought this as a joke for one of my co-workers who was moving to Germany. Was surprised when I read it that there's actually helpful information on how to fit in in Germany. Everything from the birthday boy/girl buys the drinks to Germans applaud by rapping their knuckles on a table instead of clapping (unless there really is nothing to rap your knuckles on.)

Both funny and informative. Doesn't read like a travel guide. Actually used the information when I was in Germany.

I bought this book as a gift for friends who are soon relocating to Germany, but took the time to read through it myself first. As a non-German, I can’t know how accurate this book is, but I did find it highly entertaining and informative. Some pieces of information were familiar, but many were not. I think it will help my friends transition more easily to German life.

I bought this as something fun to read before my trip to Germany. My boyfriend is German and we were heading over to visit his friends and family. I laughed so much while reading this because it was for the most part accurate. Enjoyable quick read!!
